Harry Lerner, MA, LCMHC, QS, NCC

Qualified Supervisor for LCMHCA's

Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Family, Couple, Child and Adolescent Therapist

As a family systems therapist, I believe that individuals are best understood within the context of relationships and through assessing the various interactions within an entire family.  I specialize in child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy, which depending on the need, may include couples, whole families, or just an individual.  Specifically, much of my practice focuses on relationship stress, family issues, couple/marital satisfaction, communication skills, child/adolescent disorders and behaviors, and parenting success; with additional expertise working with  bipolar disorders, personality disorders, and parental alienation/alignment.

I view counseling as a process in which I help clients focus on their strengths and goals to help them initiate and maintain change in their lives.  The theoretical perspective that I work from will somewhat depend on the presenting issues of the client and their own thought processes and beliefs, however, the orientations that I tend to use most often, which provide an underpinning to my family systems work, are based on Psychodynamic, Existential, Humanistic, Cognitive/Behavioral, Attachment, and Developmental theories.  Drawing from these frameworks, I help clients examine their meaning and values, thoughts and behaviors, roles and boundaries, in an empathetic and caring environment.  I work to help my clients have a better understanding of the challenges they are dealing with, and how best to handle them using their own supports and strengths. Together we will set specific goals and then work together to reach them, utilizing proven evidence-based therapies. Taking that first step towards increased life and relationship satisfaction isn't always an easy one.  Lets work together to make tomorrow a better day!

I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling with a focus in clinical mental health counseling, which I received from Wake Forest University.  In addition to being a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), I am licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), and as a Qualified Supervisor (QS) for associate clinicians seeking full licensure with the state.
