Adolescents, Adults, Family, and Addiction
My name is Latimer Alexander. Firstly, I want to commend you for looking for ways to address your current troubles and concerns. I hope that you will give yourself credit for looking for counseling. I’m happy that you are investing in yourself and I’d like to continue to help you along that path.
I am a graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill in Social Work with a focus in direct practice. I believe that understanding, growth, and recovery benefits from not only addressing a struggle as an individual, but involving the family and support system as a whole. Often we feel that we are the only ones that understand our fear. It can cause a distortion of being the only ones that have ever struggled or felt that pain. I look to help individuals, adolescents, couples, and families increase their understanding through education and open dialogue. With this comes the task of confronting negative self talk and distortions, bringing about greater understanding of the struggle and working to break through barriers to resolution and recovery. Areas that I address are depression, anxiety, grief, difficulties with adjustment to changing life events, and I have a passion for working with individuals and families that have been impacted by the disease of addiction.
All treatment is individualized. I do not work by any cookie cutter method. I work with each client to find the approach that works best for them. I utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, in addition to working with family system models. Regardless of the name of the clinical tool, I want to work together to find what works best for you.
Regardless of where you are in the process. I want to meet you where you are and continue to see your growth. Thank you for investing in yourself!
